Cairnes Business School, NUIG, Galway

Cairnes Business School, NUIG, Galway

This development is seen as a significant gateway building to the NUIG campus at St. Anthony’s with the construction of a new road and pedestrian access linking the University to the existing Newcastle Road.

The development provides new teaching areas, administration offices and new canteen for staff and students using this area of the campus. The building is centered on a large three storey height glazed atrium that looks out onto a new landscaped courtyard.

The building frame is reinforced concrete with the floor plates comprising reinforced coffered slabs and beams. The floor plate system was chosen in terms of economics, aesthetics and the benefit of an exposed concrete soffit which assists the natural ventilation strategy for the building.
