New Terminal at Dublin Airport

New Terminal at Dublin Airport

The new extension to the terminal at Dublin Airport, doubles the passenger capacity to close to 20 million per annum, thus allowing future growth in numbers for the foreseeable future.

The construction works for the terminal building commenced in June 1998 and were successfully completed on programme, on 28th February 2002.

A complex single-storey double height (9m deep) space was constructed in close proximity to the existing terminal buildings requiring a variety of complex temporary works. The integration of services within the large superstructure grid (22m x 12.2m) lent itself very well to steel truss members 1.6m deep. The 4,000t steel frame and PC units was erected in 16 weeks.

The entire project was carried out in a number of phases to allow the massive construction programme to progress, whilst at the same time, allowing the Airport to function in a safe and effective manner.

The project can directly be split into the following main area: New Basement New 6-Bay Extension Refurbishment of existing 8-Bay Terminal.
