National University of Ireland - Galway Cultural Centre
This project involves the refurbishment of the universities existing sports building ‘Aras Na Mac Leinn’ to provide a new student hub. The new facility will provide a student center for all societies, arts and cultural facilities, student administration and student recreation space.
The project has brought about a number of structural challenges including the accommodation of two new 24m long steel trusses designed to span the width of the existing sports hall to support new acoustic folding partitions. This will allow flexibility for the now large open sports hall space to allow functions, lectures, shows and performances within a number of smaller spaces.
Mezzanine floors have been added to areas of the existing building to provide additional accommodation and viewing facilities for cultural activities. Work has commenced on site in March 2009.
