Renovations & Restoration
Heuston Station
Heuston Station Remodelling (Phase 1) has been transformed into a bright, modern railway station which is indeed more like a sleek airport terminal – where passengers can sip cappuccinos under parasols or browse for a book.
The remodelling was to faithfully restore the 1844 Grade 1 listed train hall, designed by the railway engineer Sir John McNeill. This necessitated the recasting identical cast iron beams (10m span) and columns to the exact profile as original.
The work also involved the refurbishment of the terminal building (designed in 1844 by Sancton Wood Architect) to turn the station around to face the city.
